Where we interviewed the Cinema Director & Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Robert Rosenberg, who told us about the many up coming films for the summer.

The beautiful new, 141-seat Coral Gables Art Cinema, a full 35mm, 16mm and true industry-standard 2K HD digital projection, professional theater-quality Dolby sound, large 28′ x 12′ screen, and stadium seating, is one of the best and most comfortable venues for experiencing alternative film in South Florida. It is located at 260 Aragon Avenue, directly across the street from Books & Books, in the heart of downtown Coral Gables, and opened on October 15, 2010 after more than two years of construction.

The Cinema is a result of the unique collaboration between the City of Coral Gables, who owns the property and has developed the physical space with a quarter of a million dollars of cash investment along with another quarter of a million dollars from the Perrin Fund of the Coral Gables Community Foundation, and the non-profit Coral Gables Cinemateque, who has been responsible for the technical outfitting of the theater that has included a few hundred thousand of in-kind contributions, and now will run the venue.

The Coral Gables Art Cinema is a year-round, seven-days-a-week vehicle for the presentation of high quality American independent, foreign and classic films. Most are not generally available at other venues in South Florida, providing for a unique contribution to the region’s cultural landscape. The Cinema’s programming is designed to appeal to South Florida’s vibrant, diverse, multicultural and multilingual communities. At the same time they challenge audiences with new visions and new ideas.

In addition to film screenings, the Cinema is destined to be a cultural hub for filmmakers, other artists and the public, with live performances, sidebar events and educational activities. The complex includes an art gallery, as well as a lobby area and Cafe, with traditional movie and gourmet food and wine and beer, that extends out to covered tables on the outdoor plaza in front of the entrance.
