I got an exclusive interview with founders Liz de la Cruz and Gabriela Ortega from Alma Mei.
Alma Mei is brand of beauty and fashion, which compliments the outfit and one’s personality. What does Alma Mei really mean? In Spanish Alma means soul and in Japanese Mei means beauty. The successful business started with friends and college mates Liz de la Cruz and Gabriela Ortega. The two friends wanted to do something beside their own career and start a fashion business they both enjoyed.
Alma Mei has different pieces from clothes to jewelry. Their pieces are making a statement, to accessorize the outfit. The pieces are bold and represent the desire of a women looking chic.
Another interesting fact about Alma Mei, The girls are working with M.U.J.E.R. by making handmade bags Guna Yala. the bags are handmade stitched by domestic violence survivors. (Men and Women, United in Justice, Education, and Reform). M.U.J.E.R is a non-profit agency that has been addressing the problems of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault for over 16 years. MUJER Inc. primarily serves the Hispanic communities of southern Miami-Dade County with a special focus on Latina farmworkers. However, MUJER’s programs are open to all the residents facing domestic violence in the community regardless of age, ethnicity, and race. MUJER is also one of two state certified Rape Crisis Centers in Miami-Dade County.
Alma Mei is definitely a Beautiful Soul!
