The Hurricanes defeated FAU 34-6 in the season home opener.



The University of Miami is off to a great start in the 2013 season, as they beat Florida Atlantic University 34-6 in front of a announced crowd of 50,151 in Sun Life Stadium. University of Miami got a big game from running back Duke Johnson, who rushed for a career high 186 yards on 19 carries and including a 53-yard td run. The University of Miami fans got scared when sophomore running back Duke Johnson had to walk off the field, after Herb Waters’ 63-yard score off a reverse with 4:43 left in the third quarter and Miami leading 27-6.Furthermore, the Hurricanes defense held the Owls offense to two field goals on a total of 250 yards. The University of Miami offense had a total of 503 yards, including 303 yards on the ground and 200 yards through the air. QB Stephen Morris, who is considered one of the elites quarterback of college, was 15-27 for 160 yards and 1 td. Hurricanes leading wide receivers were Herb Walters, who had 2 receptions for 49 yards and Cliver Walford with 3 receptions for 34 yards 1 td. The Florida Atlantic University offense used two quarterbacks in the game, Jaquez Johnson who went 11-20 for 83 yards and Greg Hankerson 5-11 for 34 yards. Owls leading wide receiver was Melvin German with 3 receptions for 34 yards and Jonathan Wallace 2 receptions for 23 yards. The Hurricanes had 8 penalties resulting in 67 yards and the Owls had 3 penalties for 25 yards. Both the Hurricanes and Owls had one turnover each, also Miami third down efficiency was 4-14 and the Owls were 6-19. The University of Miami return to action next Saturday, against #10 UF kickoff set at 12:00 pm and Owls next opponent are East Carolina on Thursday, Sept 5th where kickoff is set at 7:30 pm.
