The Dolphins lost 17-16 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the special teams miscues doom the Dolphins. Furthermore, Dolphins were able to move the ball on the first offensive series, including a 20-yard run by Lamar Miller. Ryan Tannehill, was able to move the offense through the air going 6-7 for 41 yards, but weren’t able to get the ball in the end zone and K Caleb Sturgis connected on a 22 yard field goal. The Dolphins running back competition might be over as Lamar Miller finished the night with 8 carries for 35 yards and Daniel Thomas had 7 carries for 3 yards. Charles Clay, didn’t do anything to answer questions regarding filling the void left by Dustin Keller and finished the night with 1 reception for 5 yards. Furthermore, Michael Egnew did not even record a reception and rookie Dion Sims had one reception for 18 yards. The Dolphins committed two special teams miscues in the first half, first one was made when the football hit Nolan Carroll on the shoulder and was recovered by tight end Luke Stocker. On the second miscue, kick returner Marcus Thigpen was hit by tight end Tom Crabtree and was recovered by LB Adam Hayward. The Buccaneers were able to capitalize on the turnovers and scoring ten points off them. Also, the Dolphins were able to capitalize on a fumble recover by Derrick Shelby and Tannehill drove the Dolphins to the end zone connecting on a 4-yard td pass to Brandon Gibson. Miami Dolphins defense was outstanding in the first half only allowing the Buccaneers offense a total of 63 yards and Miami had 180 yards. The Dolphins Quarterback Ryan Tannehill who was finished by the first half went 17-27 for 150 yards 1 td. Furthermore, the star wide receiver in the first half was Brandon Gibson who had 5 receptions for 43 yards and 1 td. Brian Hartline had 4 receptions for 40 yards and Mike Wallace 3 receptions for 31 yards. The Buccaneers utilized quarterback Josh Freeman way into the third quarter and finished the game 6 of 16 for 59 yards. Star wide receiver Vincent Jackson finished with only one catch for 13 yards and Mike Williams who was the lead wide receiver had 2 receptions for 33 yards. The Dolphins next and final preseason game is on Thursday where kickoff is set at 7:30 pm against the New Orleans Saints.
