Tim Tebow has been signed to a two-year contract with the New England Patriots. There is NO Guaranteed money.
Last month Yahoo! Sports reported that Bill Belichick disliked Tim Tebow as a player and that there was “no chance” of him landing in New England. Belichick later said to ESPN Boston that those statements were not true. In fact he said “Yeah, I like Tim. I have a lot of respect for Tim.”
In the press conference after the signing of Tim Tebow, Belichick had a few praises for Tebow but mostly kept it brief, calling Tebow “a talented player that is smart and works hard.” He also said in regards to the media attention Tebow brings that “Hopefully there will be more than at the games on Sunday,” Belichick cracked, after saying the media attention had no impact on his decision to sign Tebow. The topic of Tim Tebow was not one that Belichick was very fond of speaking of very much as he repeated simple answers such as “we’ll see” multiple times.
By the 14th straight Tebow question, Belichick said: “I think I’ve covered it. Anything else?”
Teammate Aaron Hernandez who was also a teammate of Tebow’s at Florida for three seasons said “Once I heard the information I was a little shocked and I was happy,” “Definitely was a surprise for probably most of us.”
Tim Tebow had this to say about his signing saying “First and foremost, I just want to thank the Patriots for giving me an opportunity.” “I’m very thankful. It’s such an honor to be a Patriot and play for coach [Bill] Belichick and coach [Josh] McDaniels, and learn under Tom [Brady] and be a part of this great franchise and very successful franchise. I found out first hand; lost to them several times. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to working hard every single day and getting a lot better and learning under some great people. That’s all I got. Thank you all so much and God bless. I’m sure we’ll be talking more soon.”
A few fans even had some things to say including Daniel Camacho from Celtics Talk Radio and Bruins Breakdown Show saying “Me I’m shocked.” “For me I liked the idea. Because for one he knows he won’t be the QB here. So that means he is willing to try another position. They say he is gonna be taught the tight end plays and if anyone can get him to buy in and be a tight end its Belichick.”
Ty Ray from CLNS Radio said “Ha ha don’t get me started.” “He’s not going to play QB”. “Hell he may not even make the team.” “Maybe they’ll use him in short yardage?” “I don’t know.” “Josh McDaniels drafted him in Denver so maybe he’s got a plan.”
Tyler Hewey, owner/administrator of Sports Never Sleeps said “I like it because he is a better QB than [Ryan] Mallet so a good back up plus coach Bill [Belichick] always seems to bring the best out of the players plus Tebow can be a RB, TE, WR, kickoff coverage.”
