Expect plenty of ART, MUSIC and FUN during Miami’s Art Deco Weekend 2012!
The Art Deco Weekend ® The Art Deco Festival was started in 1976 by the Miami Design Preservation League to attract visitors to Miami Beach’s Art Deco Historic District and to raise awareness and appreciation of the arts and culture of the Art Deco era (approx. 1925-1945).
Art Deco Weekend draws close to 300,000 people for the three-day event (in the middle of January each year), and features more than 85 events.
This year’s three-day festival will include a fashion show, car show, musical performances, furniture fair and, as always, a lineup of walking tours to show off all the glorious buildings the MDPL has managed to save over the years.
While the MDPL offers Art Deco tours seven days a week (for $20 per person), the Art Deco Weekend schedule throws some more flavor into the mix, with an Underworld Tour, exploring the Deco district ‘through the lens of organized crime and other infamous acts of murder and mayhem,’ and the Cocktails With a Twist tour, which entails surprise performances and drinks (that one’s $30 each, and has a limited capacity so book early).
The Art Deco parade will hit Ocean Drive kicking off the weekend January 14, 2011 @ 11a.m.
